A pair of teenagers have been filmed having raw sewage poured over their heads after they were caught alone together in Indonesia.

They were accused of being promiscuous in a Sharia-controlled area so had the punishment to humiliate them publicly in the village of Kayee Lee, Aceh, reports the Metro.

The unmarried couple were dragged into the street and ordered to sit in front of a sewer drain while filthy water was poured onto their heads.

According to France 24 police arrived at the scene soon after their humiliation began and took them to a police station after allowing them to get clean in a stream.

To make matters worse for the couple thy may now face a sentence of caning, again to be carried out in public, if they are found guilty.

The crowd was heard shouting: ‘What you did is against Islam! This should serve as a lesson for you!’ Police chief Nazarul Fitra said that the girl, who was 18, had gone to her boyfriend’s house.

He was alone and neighbours suspected that they were going to have sex so dragged them into the street.

A human rights activist said: ‘The people who humiliated the couple didn’t get in trouble at all.

‘The police didn’t criticise these people, even though they entered a private home illegally and humiliated the couple in public.’
