Dhaka: He changed the cover photo of his facebook profile on Saturday night. ‘I AM AVIJIT’ was written in the photo with different colours. He really became Avijit on Monday morning. He is Washiqur Rahman Babu who has been hacked to death like the killing of blogger Avijit Roy.

Babu changed the cover photo on 28 March remembering the killing of writer-blogger Avijit Roy. The next line after ‘I AM AVIJIT’ reads ‘#WordsCannotBeKilled.’

Babu was hacked to death by three miscreants in Tejgoan industrial area, Dhaka on Monday. Local people caught two of them-Jikrullah and Ariful Islam- and handed over to the police. During primary interrogation, they said that Washiqur Rahman Babu has been killed as he made derogatory comments on religion.

Washiqur used to write on somewhereinblog.net using a penname Kutshit Hasher Chhana (Ugly Duckling). He started writing in that blog on 1 January 2008. He became active in facebook from 2010. Some of his posts faced severe criticism. Specially, he faced agressive comments for his posts on religion.

Earlier on 26 February 2015, blogger Avijit Roy was hacked to death by unidentified persons on Dhaka University campus.

Attackers also hacked and wounded Avijit’s wife Rafida Ahmed Banya who was accompanying him at the time of attack. Avijit was being threatened for writing on religion.

Washiqur gave several posts on his wall protesting the killing of Avijit. On 11 March, he changed his profile picture also with a poster where ‘#iamavijit’ was written.
