Tabith slams EC for revising army deployment decision
Dhaka: The Bangladesh Nationalist Party-backed mayoral contenders for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Tabith Awal on Thursday expressed his dissatisfaction over the Election Commission’s revised decision to keep army inside cantonments, saying it is an unexpected move.
‘The Election Commission has taken two types of decision on army deployment. Earlier, it said army to be deployed and subsequently sent a letter to the authorities concerned. Just a day later, it changed its decision. Such double standard of the commission is unexpected,’ he said during his electioneering in Badda link road area.
Tabith started his polls campaign from Gudaraghat in Badda area at about 10:00am.
Talking to reporters, he said they want the Election Commission to take all the necessary steps for holding the polls in a free and fair manner.
Tabith said the Commission should ensure all-out security for the voters so that they can safely return home after casting their votes peacefully.
He voiced concern over repeated attacks on BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and urged the Commission to ensure her security.
Tabith also conducted electioneering in East Rapura, West Hajipara, West Rampura, Omar Ali Lane and Mirpur areas.
