Garment workers rally for wages in Dhaka
Dhaka: Workers of a garment factory at North Badda owned by Chunji Knit Ltd staged a rally on Thursday, demanding payment of all outstanding salaries.
The demand came under the banner of the United Federation of Garments Workers (UFGW) at Jatiya Press Club.
Workers alleged they are owed four months’ salaries. They also alleged that the management is mounting pressure on them to leave the factory forgoing their due salaries and other benefits.
Workers also alleged lawmaker AKM Rahmatullah, MP, is the owner of the building and the garments is widely known as ‘Rahmatullah garments’ in the locality.
They demanded immediate payment of four months’ pay they are owen, and all the benefits as per the labor law if the owner wants to abandon the workers.
Among others President of Chunji Knit Ltd Sramik Karmachari Union Md Sumon, and UFGW’s general secretary Nurul Islam spoke on the occasion.
