Gazipur: A woman was raped on a boat on Wednesday night at Kaliganj in Gazipur, said Kaliganj police.

The Kaliganj police sub-inspector (SI) Arif quoting the victim said the teenager, also a worker of private organisation in Narsingdi, rode on a boat in Kaliganj along with her colleagues to go home after office at about 8:00pm on Wednesday.

After her colleagues got off from the boat at Nargana terminal of the River Shitalokkhya, two boatmen, Al-Amin, in his twenties, and Fahim, forcefully took the girl to a quiet place and molested her until midnight.

Later, two other boatmen, Faruque and Sharif also raped the woman, said the police.

Police, after local people called them, rescued the victim from the spot. Police held Faruque and Sharif.

Local people said the Kaliganj police kept the victim in police custody from early hours of Thursday till the afternoon and did not send her for medical test. However, the victim will have to wait till Saturday for medical test as Friday is weekly holiday.

Kaliganj police officer-in-charge Mostafizur Rahman said a case was filed with the station in this connection.
