JnU teachers won’t boycott Friday’s entrance test
Dhaka: Jagannath University Teachers Association (JnUTA) has decided not to boycott the bachelor entrance test of B unit scheduled for Friday following a request from its academic council.
‘The decision came from an emergency meeting of the association at about 11:00am on Thursday after the university academic council requested the association at its academic meeting not to boycott the test,’ JnUTA general secretary Professor Abul Hossain told UNB.
He said they have decided not to boycott tomorrow’s B-unit admission test but their decision of boycotting all the other admissions tests will remain unchanged.
On Wednesday, the teachers association announced to boycott all the admission tests after an emergency meeting, demanding an independent pay scale for them terming the 8th national pay scale a discriminatory one.
Later, the Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers’ Association (FBUTA) suspended the JnU Teachers’ Association for taking the decision.
Responding to a question about the suspension, Prof Dr Abul Hossain said, “We’ve heard that FBUTA suspended our association but we’re yet to receive any written document from them.”
On 7 September, the Cabinet approved the new pay scale for public servants raising the monthly basic salary of the Grade 1 public officials to Tk 78,000 (fixed) while the basic pay of Grade 20 employees at Tk 8,250.
The public university teachers have been on a movement seeking an independent pay scale for them terming the 8th national pay scale a discriminatory one.
Later, the government reconstituted the cabinet committee over eliminating salary discriminations headed by Finance Minister Abul Mal Abdul Muhith.
