Conference dedicated to Cervantes, author of Don Quixote
On 15 November, Cátedra Inditex de Lengua y Cultura española at Dhaka University will organise a conference dedicated to Miguel de Cervantes, the Spanish author from the XVII century. Cervantes wrote the universally known as the first modern novel: Don Quixote (El Quijote).
Coordinator of Inditex Chair for Spanish Language and Culture, University of Dhaka Amparo Porta said: ‘Miguel de Cervantes died on 23 April 1616, and we are commemorating the 4th century anniversary of his passing.’
This conference will be focused on talks about the leading figure of the author, the influence of his work in the Universal Literature and an analysis of El Quijote translations into Bengali with its version for children too.
The speakers at the conference will be experts from Dhaka University. Professor Fakrul Alam from The English Department, Dhaka University, will speak about El Quijote and English Novels and Professor Rafique-um-Munir Chowdhury from The Spanish Department at The Institute of Modern Languages is going to talk about his translation of El Quijote in its version for children.
Professor Santiago Fernández Mosquera from Universidad de Santiago de Compostela in Spain is also scheduled to join conference. Professor Santiago Fernández Mosquera is the Academic Director at Cátedra Inditex and an expert in Spanish Classic Literature.
The closing of the homage will be the projection of El Caballero Don Quijote a Spanish film from 2002 by Miguel Gutiérrez Aragón; amongst the many cinema versions made of this universal novel.
