Islamic University students asked to leave halls
Dhaka: The Islamic University in Kushtia authorities on Saturday asked students to leave residential halls by 5:00pm on Saturday over Bangladesh Chhatra League IU unit factional clash.
The university authorities on Saturday afternoon took the decision considering the safety of students and reasoning winter vacation following clashes between two BCL factions.
Police and witnesses said a faction of former BCL university unit general secretary Shamsuzzaman Tuhin and its leader Halim brought out procession demanding the removal of the university Vice-Chancellor Dr Abdul Hakim Sarker over alleged various corruption charges. When the procession was being passing by a tent chanting slogans against current BCL university unit president Saiful Islam, the supporters of the current president attacked in the procession. At least three students injured as two factions were locked in clash.
Islamic University police officer in-charge Shafiqul Islam Chowdhury said police fired two rounds to bring the situation under control and additional police forces were deployed to avoid further clash.
