Dhaka: From July 27 to 29, for the third time Model UN was held in the Jahangirnagar University premises by the dedicated effort by Jahangirnagar University Model United Nations Association (JUMUNA) who dream to be a part of this noble endeavor.

The conference saw the presence of about 300 delegates from various schools, universities and associations around the country, notably Bangladesh University of Professionals, Chittagong University, Dhaka University, Rajshahi University, Brac University, North South University, Scholastica School, Noakhali Science and Technology University, Independent University Bangladesh, UNYSA Bangladesh etc. thus building a diverse platform for all.

For the third time, the cultural capital tasted the flavor of diplomacy. This created a great deal of enthusiasm among the students in Jahangirnagar University.

It is to be noted that, this was the biggest program ever launched by any students’ association in Jahangirnagar University. The Secretary General of this conference was Md. Mahmudul Islam Prince and The Director General was Md. Jahirul Islam Chowdhury.

Moreover, the important fact of the conference was Team JUMUNA went for implementation of draft resolution from each committee. The director of Action Aid Bangladesh, Mr. Asgar Ali Sabri discussed about how to apply the draft resolution according to the perspective of Bangladesh.

The program simulated 8 committees. They are : United Nations Security Council (UNSC),  United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), United Nations Development Program (UNDP), United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), United Nations Economic & Social Council ( ECOSOC), Non Governmental Organization (NGO), Model National Assembly of Bangladesh (M-NAB) and International Press (IP).

The agenda of ECOSOC is Ensuring necessary skills and decent work opportunity for the youth; the agenda of UNICEF is Ensuring child rights in education & health ; the agenda of UNESCO is Financing on education to ensure quality standard ; the agenda of UNDP is Ensuring efficient fiscal governance ; the agenda of UNSC is threat of Non terrorist group ; the agenda of M-NAB is communal harmony for sustainable development. The delegates of IP & NGO has submitted their report after their observation of others committee session.

Model UN is also for any student who is willing to be a policy maker in the future. Negotiations, networking, policy making, public speaking etc. are the key skills, one can acquire from Model UN conferences. Certainly Jahangirnagar Model UN i.e. JMUN is a wonderful platform set in the scenic nature of Jahangirnagar University.

The program was held at JU campus at Savar, Dhaka collaborated by UNIC ; Action Aid Bangladesh ; Somoy TV; NTV online; The Daily Observer; Radio Next (93.2 FM).
