JU teachers on work abstention protesting Muhith’s statement
Savar: Jahangirnagar University Teachers Association (JATA) started a week-long work abstention programme from Monday protesting Finance Minister AMA Muhith’s statement that there is no scope left for the review of the 8th national pay scale in favour of the university teachers, reports local news agency.
On 23 December, Finance Minister AMA Muhith said there is no scope to change the newly announced national pay scale.
The minister came up with the remark while talking to reporters after paying his income tax online at the Secretariat in Dhaka.
The teachers will boycott all the classes and examinations till 2 January to protest the comments.
But the ongoing honours admission tests will be out of the purview.
The announcement of the work abstention came from an emergency meeting of JUTA.
The association also demanded Muhith’s resignation as he did not keep his promise.
Prof Khabir Uddin, president of Juta, said the teachers will launch a tougher movement after 2 January if their demands are not met.
