6 more private universities ‘get govt nod’
Dhaka: The government has approved six new universities in the private sector, raising the total number of the country’s private universities to 91.
Senior information officer of the Education Ministry Mohammad Saifullah on Sunday told UNB that the approval was given a few days back.
However, an official at the ministry wishing anonymity said the fresh approval was given on Wednesday.
Of the six universities, Saifullah said, two will be set up in capital Dhaka while one each in Manikganj, Chittagong, Kushtia and Khulna.
In the capital, he said University of Scholars will be set up in Badda while Canadian University of Bangladesh in Tejgaon.
NPI University of Bangladesh was given approval to be set up in Manikganj while University of Creative Technology in Chittagong, Rabindra Maitree University in Kushtia and North University in Khulna, Saifullah added.
Against the backdrop of widespread allegations of irregularities against most of the private universities, the government has given the fresh approval for the six new private universities.
