Nahid hopeful of reaching deal with univ teachers
Dhaka: Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Tuesday hoped that a solution to the university teachers’ dispute over the 8th national pay scale can be worked out soon.
‘Negotiations with public university teachers are progressing. I’m much hopeful about reaching a solution,’ he said.
The minister came up with the remarks while talking to reporters at the Secretariat after a meeting with a delegation of the Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers Association (FBUTA), reports UNB.
‘I’m no one to give them assurance of solving their problem… the government will give them assurance over the issue. I’m also a member of the family of teacher. That’s why I’m discussing with them how the problem can be solved,’ he noted.
FBUTA President Farid Uddin Ahmed told reporters after the meeting that their movement and the discussion with the government will continue simultaneously.
‘The discussion was held in an amiable environment and the discussion will be continued. We demand for a peaceful and respectful solution …we hope the problem will be solved through the negotiation,’ he said.
Education Secretary Sohrab Hossain and Secretary General of FBUTA ASM Maksud Kamal were also present at the meeting.
