Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Thursday told Parliament that action will be taken against the teachers who use mobile phone in classrooms.

 ‘If we find information that any teacher uses mobile phone in the classroom, we’ll take action,’ he said replying to a supplementary question from Awami League MP Shamsul Haque Chowdhury, reports the UNB.

Mentioning that the Education Ministry issued a directive in this regard three years ago, the minister said they have already taken actions against some teachers.

He urged people to lodge complaints against the malpractice by the teachers to the authorities concerned.

 In reply to another supplementary question from ruling party MP Fazilatun Nasa Bappy, Nahid said the government has brought the leakage of question papers during public examinations and the coaching business under control to some extent through different measures.

About the coaching business, he also said the government could not stop it fully as school and college teachers are also involved in the business. ‘That’s why we’ve placed a bill in Parliament. If you (MPs) pass it, it’ll be possible to take legal actions in this regard.’

The minister mentioned that the government has already taken a number of steps to prevent question paper leak.

Responding to a starred question from AL MP Abul Kalam Azad, he said the flood-ravaged educational institutions will be repaired after getting required funds from the Finance Division.

The Education Ministry on November 13 last received a demand for funds alongside a list of 1,586 institutions, affected by flood in 28 districts, from the Education Engineering Department.

‘We’ll send it to the Finance Division soon. The institutions damaged by flood will be repaired after getting the fund,’ he said.

Meanwhile, Primary and Mass Education Minister Mostafizur Rahman told the House that the government will be able to complete repairing work of all rundown primary school buildings, including those were damaged by flood, before June 2018.

He made this remark replying to a supplementary question from AL MP Nobi Newaz.
