Seminar on ‘Visual Aesthetics and Business’ held at NDUB
Dhaka: A seminar entitled ' Aesthetics and Business' jointly organized by NDUB Business Club and NDUB English Club, was held at Notre Dame University Bangladesh (NDUB) campus on November 17, 2017.
Bangladeshi-American film-maker Wahid Anam, a post graduate in Film-making from New York Film Academy, and Nabila Sharmin Swarna, Senior Key Account Manager of Adclub, were present as speakers along with Fr Patrick Daniel Gaffney, CSC, Vice Chancellor, NBUB who attended this event as a special guest and along with the moderators and co-moderators of both the clubs.
The seminar focused on two dimensions involved with the current collaboration of visual art merging with the advertising industry. Wahid Anam spoke on ‘Visual Story Telling for Target Audience’ where he discussed how visual story telling is such an art form which can’t be defined in a specific limited categorization. He focused on how a story is visualized for the target audience and what are the techniques that work behind to captivate the consent of the target audience.
“It’s not what story I am telling but the success of the story depends on how much I am connecting the story with my audience,” shares Wahid as he broadly discusses the art and forms of storytelling.
Nabila Sharmin Swarna shared her views on “Motion Advert and Business Art”. She focused on specific topics like: how to write a brief, who are the target audience and what do they want, what are the scopes, who are the competitors, what should be the tone or design of the background, how to write a script for commercials, hiring a professional copywriter, how to write a script for the story telling, and discussing the key points with managers and marketers.
She also discussed briefly about other important aspects like competitor, the target, the design, the budget of making an advert, and the ultimate goal.
The seminar ended with a question-answer session where students asked for some brief ways to design an effective story for the target audience to which Wahid Anam responded, “Know your audience well and your story will draw them towards you, there is no specific category or guideline to make you creative”.
The session ended with a motion advert entitled “Baby and Me”, a commercial of mineral water brand named ‘Evian’ with taglines ‘drink pure and natural’ and ‘Live Young’, in a response to a student’s query, where Swarna pointed out how the concept was developed based on the taglines and the way characters were designed smoothly connects the audiences with the theme of the advert.
