Jahangirnagar University: Awami League-backed panel of Jahangirnagar University ‘Bangabandhur Adarsha O Muktijuddher Chetonay Biswashi Progotishil Jote’ on Tuesday accused JU Vice-chancellor Prof Farzana Islam of violating the code of conduct of the Senate registered graduate election billed for December 30.

It made the allegation at a press conference held at the lounge room of the JU central cafeteria around 11am.

In a written statement, former JU VC Prof Shariff Enamul Kabir said ‘Bangabandhur Adarsha O Muktijuddher Chetonay Biswashi Progotishil Jote’ was not given the scope of giving its opinions in any process of the election.

‘As per the law, the returning officer will announce the election schedule after the approval of the VC. But Prof Farzana Islam announced the election schedule before the appointment of the returning officer which is the clear violation of the code of conduct,’ he said.

Denying the allegations, the JU VC said, ‘We haven’t violated any code of conduct of the registered graduate election. Because the Returning Officer was appointed on September 11 while the election notice was issued on September 12. So, their allegation is totally baseless.’

Over 100 teachers and graduates were present at the press conference.

The registered graduate representative election to JU senate will be held on December 30 after 19 years where 119 candidates will contest.
