DU students submit memo to VC against metro rail route
Dhaka: Dhaka University students on Thursday submitted a memorandum to their Vice Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique demanding that he will take effective steps to divert the metro rail route from the university campus.
In the memorandum, the students mentioned that they are not against the metro rail project, but they do not want it through the DU campus.
After submitting the memorandum, Uzma Tazria, one of the organisers of the protest, said, ‘We just want that the proposed metro rail will go via Shahbagh-High Court road instead of the DU campus.’
Dhaka University is an open historical museum of Bangladesh which will be harmed if there is a metro rail route, she added.
The agitating students also announced to arrange an open discussion at Raju Sculpture on Sunday to press for their demand.
Earlier, the students gathered at the Raju Sculpture and staged demonstrations there in support of their demand.
They were chanting slogans like ‘our campus our right, save the campus, join the fight’.
