EWU holds Int’l conference on English studies
Dhaka: With a view to addressing the contemporary pressing issues of English studies in a globalized world, the private East-West University on Friday launched a two-day international conference on its Aftabnagar campus in Dhaka.
The title of the 4th international conference is ‘English Studies and the Marketplace’, said a university press release.
Professor Abdul Mannan, Chairman, University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, inaugurated the opening session of the conference as the chief guest.
Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson, Board of Trustees and Founder Vice Chancellor of the East West University, presided over the session while Professor M M Shahidul Hassan, Vice Chancellor, East West University, was present as the special guest.
Professor Thomas Andrew Kirkpatrick, Department of Languages and Linguistics, Griffith University, Brisbane, Australia presented the keynote paper of the conference. Manzur Alam, Chairperson, Department of English, was also present on the occasion.
Erudite scholars, university teachers and young researchers from home and abroad including presenters from India, Sri Lanka, England and Australia were present.
About one hundred notable faculty members, researchers and students of the English studies arena participated in the conference. Member of the Board of Trustees on EWU, faculty members and students were also present.
