Rajshahi University to open five new departments
Rajshahi: Rajshahi University (RU) is going to open five new departments soon to meet the pressing demand of time.
The departments are: Horticulture, Microbiology, Food and Nutrition, Soil Science and Industrial Science, reported UNB.
Bangladesh University Grants Commission has already approved of the launching of the new departments, said Prof Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan, Pro-vice-chancellor of RU, yesterday (Thursday) evening.
He was addressing a function for distributing gold medals and prizes among the winners of indoor game competition-2015 on Matiher Hall premises of the university as the chief guest.
Professor Chowdhury said a Taka 338-crore project is now in the pipeline for multipurpose development of RU. As part of the development activities, two ten-storied students’ dormitories, one for male and other for female, will be built. Proposed name of the dormitories are ‘Sheikh Hasina’ and ‘Shaheed Qamaruzzaman’, he told the audience.
The project has the provision of a 20-storied academic building.
He said the present administration is putting in its best to transform the university into a center of excellence in the near future.
On the occasion, three students, Araf Khan of Accounting and Information Management, Hadiuzzaman of Arabic and Musabbir Ahmed of Zoology, were given gold medals for their outstanding results.
RU Treasurer Professor Sayen Uddin, Hall Provost Prof Jahangir Alam Soud and House Tutor Sadiqul Islam also spoke on the occasion.
