Public univ teachers’ work abstention 2 May
Dhaka: Amid widespread protest against the killing of Rajshahi University Professor Rezaul Karim Siddiquee, the teachers of all public universities will observe a three-hour work abstention on 2 May demanding immediately bringing the killers to justice.
Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers’ Associations (FBUTA) took the decision on Tuesday evening, said a press release signed by the association president Professor Farid Uddin Ahmed and secretary Professor ASM Maksud Kamal.
The teachers will abstain from taking classes from 10:00am to 1:00pm in all public universities on 2 May, while they will stage demonstration on their respective campuses from 12:00pm to 1:00pm wearing black badges, protesting the gruesome killing.
On 3 May, FBUTA members will take part in a protest programme on the Rajshahi University campus and the following day they will submit a memorandum to the Home Minister in this regard.
Prof Rezaul Karim, of the RU English department, was killed by miscreants in the city’s Shalbagan area while waiting for a university bus on 23 April.
Victim’s son Sourov Hossain filed a murder case with Boalia police station.
Meanwhile, the case was shifted to the Detective Branch (DB) of police for the sake of a thorough investigation.
