Teachers who misguide students will face action: minister
Dhaka: Teachers who misguide students and try to radicalise them will not be spared, says Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid.
‘Some people in the guise of teachers are involved in militant acts in some educational institutions. They are misguiding students,’ he said while addressing a views-exchange meeting with vice chancellors and senior teachers of the country’s public universities on Saturday.
He said the Home Ministry is looking for the teachers who are misguiding the students. ‘They must be traced,’ said Nahid
The University Grants Commission (UGC) arranged the meeting at International Mother Language Institute here to ensure a congenial atmosphere in the country’s public universities in the wake of the recent terror attacks.
Noting that a similar views-exchanged meeting was held with the authorities of all private universities a few days back, the Education Minister said they will sit in such meetings with teachers of Alim madrasahs on Sunday, Kamil madrasahs on 27 July and with the authorities of all technical institutions on 30 July next.
All the educational institutions have already been asked to send data of their students who remain absent from their classes for 10 consecutive days to the Education Ministry through the respective upazila nirbahi officers (UNOs) or deputy commissioners (DCs), Nahid said.
He said the Education Ministry is now sending a message to all educational institutions to be conscious and take measures so that no student is deviated. ‘We’ll send the message to all institutions across the country by 30 July next,’ he added.
He said all the educational institutions are being brought under strict watch. And teachers will have to know every student and monitor whether any student is being deviated.
Mentioning that Eden Mahila College has already introduced fingerprint attendance system, he said all institutions must maintain the attendance registers properly.
UGC Chairman professor Abdul Mannan said there are militant suspects in public universities alongside the private universities.
