12 DU students receive Professor Sitara Pervin Award
Dhaka: A total of 12 meritorious students of the Mass Communication and Journalism Department of Dhaka University (DU) have received 'Professor Sitara Parvin Award' for their outstanding academic results in the BSS Honours examination of 2015.
DU Vice-chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique distributed scholarships among the awardees at a function held at the RC Majumder Auditorium of the university on Tuesday.
DU Mass Communication and Journalism Department Chairman Mafizur Rahman presided over the function while environment and human rights activist Philip Gain delivered ‘Sitara Parvin Memorial Lecture’.
The awardees are: Monira Begum, Nuzaira Tarannum, Maliha Tabassum, Tanjina Tanin, Ali Ahsan, Emran Hossain, Md Ashraful Goni, Mehedi Hasan, Mahmudul Hasan, Md Jahid-E-Hasan, Bappi Kumar Paul and Shamima Sultana.
The DU VC urged the brilliant students to play a pioneering role in creating awareness against terrorism and extremism in the society.
He said the young generation must equip themselves with morality, honesty, patriotism and humanitarian values.
Arefin Siddique also paid glowing tributes to the memory of late professor Sitara Parvin, daughter of former President Justice Shahabuddin Ahmad and wife of Ahaduzzaman Mohammad Ali.
She died in a tragic road accident in the USA on 23 June 2005.
