JnU students call strike for Tuesday, Wednesday on campus
Dhaka: Jagannath University students on Monday called strike on the campus for Tuesday and Wednesday to step up their demand for building students’ dormitories on the piece of land, recently become vacant by shifting the Central Jail in the Old Town of Dhaka to Keraniganj.
Raisul Islam Nayan, a student of the university and also a leader of the movement, made the announcement at a press conference held on the campus in the afternoon.
Subrata, another student of the university, said they would observe their strike from 8:00am to 4:00pm on Tuesday and Wednesday to press their demand, adding that if the government failed to take any step to meet their demands by 4:00pm on Wednesday, they would announce tougher programmes on the day.
They would also hold a sit-in programme on the campus, Subrata said.
At least 10 JnU students were injured as police fired teargas shells at Bangshal Police Station intersection in the morning to foil an attempt of JnU students to move towards the Prime Minister’s Office for submitting an application in this regard.
