14 Rangpur Medical College female students face action for ragging
Rangpur: Rangpur Medical College authorities have taken punitive action against 14 female students for their involvement in ragging two fellow students.
The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the academic council held on Tuesday with college principal Dr Animesh Majumdar in the chair after the allegation was probed against them during investigation, reports UNB.
Nurunnabi Laizu, vice- principal of the college and also a member of the probe committee, said the meeting suspended 14 students for different terms ranging from three years to one year and canceled their seats in the hostel.
The meeting also revoked two students and cautioned them for their involvement in the incident, he said.
College sources said the students identifying themselves as activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League entered rooms 25 and 26 of the lone dormitory for female students of the college on the night of 29 August and ransacked beds, books, mobile phones, electronic equipment and furniture.
They also tortured its inmates Anika Raj and Runa, third year students of the college, physically and mentally and kept them standing for the whole night.
Following a written complain from the victims, a three-member probe committee was formed with Gastroenteritis Department Nurul Islam as its head to look into the incident.
The probe body submitted its reports to the principal on Monday.
