SUST reduces admission test fees amid protest

Sylhet: Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) authorities have decided to reduce application fees for the Bachelor’s courses entry test amid ongoing protests of students demanding withdrawal of the increased application fees.
After attending at Academic Council Meeting at about 1:00pm on Wednesday, member sectary of admission committee-2016 professor AHM Belayet Hussain said at a press briefing, now applicants have to pay Tk 800 for ‘A’ and ‘B-1’ unit, which was Tk 1000. On the other hand, ‘B-2’ unit application fees will be Tk 900, reducing Tk 300 from Tk 1200.
He also added that, applicants who have already completed their registration would get the extra money back.
‘Mullobriddhi Birodhi Sikkharthi Mancha’ a platform of social, voluntary, cultural and leftist political activists of the university continued their program for four consecutive days over the demand. Getting message of application fee reduction, several hundreds of students under the platform brought out a victory procession and paraded the main streets. Sarwar Tushar, the spokesman of the movement marked it as an initial victory with conditions including combined admission process.
Earlier, they observed sit-in program from 9:00am to 1:00pm in front of VC office over the demand.
However, the application was started at the university under three units- A, B1, B2, from 16 October 16 and it will continue till 10 November. Application fees was fixed TK 1000 for A and B1 units and TK 1200 for B2 unit.
