Day-long workshop on safe food held at DU
Dhaka: A day-long training workshop on "Quality Assurance and Quality Control of Food Analytical Laboratories" was held at Center for Advanced Research in Sciences auditorium (CARS) on Dhaka University (DU) campus on Wednesday.
DU Research Center for Food Composition organized the event while University Grant Commission (UGC) Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan addressed the workshop as the chief guest.
Professor Mannan laid emphasis on the need for ensuring quality of food and hoped that this workshop would play an effective role to enhance the quality of research in this regard.
DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique presided over the inaugural ceremony of the workshop and in his speech he urged the researchers to conduct advanced level research to ensure hygienic food for the countrymen.
He also stressed on the need for creating awareness among the general people about their food habits and safe life style.
Later, UGC Chairman and DU Vice-Chancellor jointly inaugurated the Food Analysis Laboratory at CARS and formally opened a new website of the laboratory.
Director of CARS Professor Dr Golam Mohammad Bhuiyan and Sub-Project Manager of Food Analysis Laboratory Prof. Dr. Nazma Shaheen joined the function, among others.
However, about 20 researchers of Dhaka University took part in the workshop.
