RUET teachers postpone strike
Rajshahi: Teachers of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET), who went on work abstention on February 5 demanding punishment of the students who had confined them during their protest, postponed their programme on Saturday.
The decision has been taken at an emergency meeting of the RUET Teachers’ Association at noon, said Prof Nirendra Nath Mustafi, president of the association.
The Teachers’ Association also gave a 21-day ultimatum for publishing the investigation report over the incident to take steps against the responsible students, he said.
On February 5, the university authorities cancelled the “33 credit system” following the protest of a section of students of the university.
On the same day after the withdrawal of strike enforced by the students, teachers started boycotting classes demanding punishment to the students who confined 16 teachers, including the Vice Chancellor, for about 20 hours before the day.
The university authorities formed a five-member committee to investigate the complaints of the teachers on February 8.
