DU students oppose Home Economics girls’ demand
Dhaka: Dhaka University (DU) students on Thursday staged demonstrations on the campus against the demand of Home Economics College students to declare the college as a DU institute.
Around 500 students gathered in front of the residence of DU Vice-chancellor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique in the morning.
Later, they formed a human chain from the VC Chattar to Nilkhet intersection from 11:00am to 12:30pm.
Terming the demand of the Home Economics College students illogical, they urged the university authorities not to give in to it.
They also placed a five-point demand to DU Proctor AM Amzad when he went to the spot.
The demands include not allowing affiliated institutions to use DU name, logo and monogram, separate policy for affiliated institutions and separate convocation for DU students.
Students of the Home Economics College went on an indefinite strike on Saturday boycotting classes and blocking Nilkhet intersection to press home their various demands, including declaring the college an institute of Dhaka University.
