Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Thursday said the government has decided to modify the textbooks of class IX and X, aiming to make those more attractive and comprehensible.

The Education Minister came up with the disclosure after a meeting with educationalists at his ministry.

‘We’ve a plan to hand over the modified versions of 12 textbooks to students from the next year,’ said Nahid.

The books are Bangla Literature, English for Today, History of Bangladesh & World Civilization, Bangladesh and Global Studies, Mathematics, Higher Mathematics, General Science, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics and Accounting.

He said 12 educationists have been entrusted with the responsibility of modifying the textbooks. ‘We’ve also taken several steps for maintaining the standard of education. To stop coaching business and guide book business, we’re formulating laws,’ said the minister.

Nahid said the government is also taking steps to minimise the number of textbooks at the higher secondary level. The overall public examination period will also be reduced, he added.
