21 univs sign deal with UGC for ensuring quality education

Dhaka: Twenty-one universities, including 13 private ones, signed an agreement with the University Grants Commission (UGC) for putting in place a mechanism in their universities to ensure quality education.
The agreement (Round-2), involving Tk 42 crore, was singed at a ceremony at UGC auditorium on Sunday, said a press release.
The universities which signed the agreement are Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Patuakhali Science and Technology University, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology, Khulna University of Engineering and Technology, Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology, Sylhet Agricultural University, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Independent University of Bangladesh, International University of Business Agriculture and Technology, Asian University of Bangladesh, Gono Bishwabidyalay, Dhaka International University, South East University, Daffodil International University, Northern University Bangladesh, Eastern University, Uttara University, United International University, University of Asia and Pacific and BRAC University.
Education Secretary Md Nazrul Islam Khan was present as the chief guest at the function chaired by UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan.
Speaking on the occasion, the Education Secretary said the quality of higher education must be improved as education at the tertiary level cast a significant impact on the overall development of a country.
