5 DU BCL men suspended over assaulting student
Dhaka: The Dhaka University (DU) authorities have suspended five activists of Bangladesh Chattra League (BCL) from the university for assaulting a student at Bijoy Ekattor hall of the university.
The suspended students are Ariful Islam Arif, vice president of DU BCL unit, also a master's student of Linguistics Department, Kazi Tanvir Ahmed of Linguistics Department (2nd year), Shamchita Bridge Pranta of Institute of Education and Research Department (2nd year), Ahsan Habib Sajib of Law Department (3rd year), and Abu Yunus of Islamic Studies Department (3rd year).
The authorities took the action against the five students on Sunday, said DU acting proctor Prof M Amzad Ali.
Earlier, on Thursday night, a group of BCL activists, led by DU unit BCL vice president Ariful Islam, beat up Ismail Ahmed Mubin, a masters student of Anthropology Department, over a trifle matter.
The Bijoy Ekattor Hall authorities on Friday suspended eight BCL activists, including the five, from the hall over the incident.
