US Student Visa Day on 25 June, 9 July

Dhaka: The consular section of the US Embassy in Dhaka in collaboration with the Embassy’s Education USA student advising center, will host events titled ‘Student Visa Day’ on 25 June and 9 July in the city.
Over 700 Bangladeshi students who aspire to pursue higher education in the United States are expected to apply for student visas, said a media release on Tuesday.
‘Student Visa Day’ will provide an opportunity for students to experience a fun and festive atmosphere to present their applications for visas, attend special sessions from EducationUSA on academics and campus life in the United States, and join a preliminary pre-departure orientation by student advisors.
Students may also have an opportunity to meet US Ambassador Marcia Bernicat who is planning to visit the consular section during the event.
Student applicants are welcome to apply and schedule an interview on either ‘Student Visa Day.’
However, students continuing their studies in the United States who are need to renew their visas may find that they qualify for the interview waiver or ‘Drop Box’ process.
The ‘Drop Box’ eligibility criteria are available at http://www.ustraveldocs.com/bd under the “Renew My Visa” checklist.
The US Department of State’s Bureau of Consular Affairs is currently experiencing technical problems with its global visa issuance systems.
This issue is not specific to any particular country or visa category, said the media release adding that the Department of State is working urgently to correct the problem and restore full operability.
Although the consular section is still unable to process visas completely, consular officers will be interviewing applicants and adjudicating visas to be ready for issuance as soon as the visa issuance system is fully restored.
