JU compensates families of 2 students killed in road crash
Savar: The authorities of Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Wednesday provided compensation to the families of two students who were killed in a road accident on May 26.
Vice Chancellor of the university Professor Dr Farzana Islam handed over Tk five lakh each to the families on behalf of the university and Dhaka District Police at her office at noon.
Two members of the families of the victims also received jobs in JU according to their educational qualification, said the VC.
Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Abul Hossain, Registrar Abu Bakar Siddique and Dean of Social Science Faculty Professor Amir Hossain were also present here.
Earlier on May 26, Nazmul Hossain Rana and Mehedi Hasan Arafat were killed in an accident when a bus hit a human hauler on Dhaka-Aricha highway at C&B Bus Stand near the campus.
Since then general students have been demanding punishment of the driver and financial assistance to the families.
Meanwhile, a group of teachers and students under the banner of 'Teacher-Student Unity Platform' marched to the Central Shaheed Minar premises demanding withdrawal of cases against the JU students who were involved in the protest movement.
They also declared to go for tougher movement if their demand is not met.
