Tree plantation program begins at DU
Dhaka: A week long tree plantation program jointly organized by the Arboriculture Centre and Tree Plantation and Beautification Committee of Dhaka University (DU) begun here today at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban premises of the university.
DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the program as chief guest by planting a green lawn sapling at the senate building premises.
Among others, DU Pro-VC (Academic) Professor Dr Nasreen Ahmad, Director of the Arboriculture Centre Professor Dr Mihir Lal Shaha, Acting Registrar Syed Rezaur Rahman, Inspector of Colleges Dr. Bimal Kanti Guha, President of DU Officers Association Syed Ali Akbar and General Secretary Md. Ramiz Uddin were present on this occasion.
The Vice-Chancellor stressed the need for tree plantation in a planned-way as well as nursing saplings properly.
“We have to plant different types of saplings in rural and urban areas to face climate change and air pollution issues” he said.
The VC also paid rich tributes to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Bangabandhu had started tree plantation program during his regime to make Bangladesh a greeneries country, he added.
