Public univ teachers call strike for Tuesday
Dhaka: Teachers of the country’s public universities on Saturday called a strike for Tuesday to press home their various demands, including an independent pay sale for them.
Professor Maksud Kamal, general secretary of Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers’ Association, announced the programme from a general meeting of teachers held at Teachers’ Club at Dhaka University, and later with vice-chancellors of the universities at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University auditorium.
After the two meetings, he said, it was decided that the teachers will boycott both the classes and examinations on 8 September.
He also announced to hold a meeting with newspaper editors on 10 September and a rally on 13 September at Aporajeyo Bangla premises of Dhaka University.
Their demands included immediate revision of the 8th national pay scale, keeping senior professors and senior secretaries of the government at the same level of payment.
