Election to be fair if admin works neutrally, says CEC
Mymensingh: Claiming that a congenial election atmosphere prevails in the country, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda on Saturday said the polls will be held in a credible manner if the administration works neutrally.
‘A sense of festivity prevails centring the election,’ he said while addressing a views-exchange meeting with the field-level officials of Mymensingh division at the Tarek Memorial Auditorium in the afternoon, reports the UNB.
The CEC said army members will perform duty from December 24. ‘Law enforcement agencies will remain alert before and after the election to maintain the congenial atmosphere,’ he said.
He said there is no possibility that BNP candidates, who lost their candidacy following legal battle, will get back their candidatures.
Nurul Huda also claimed that the ruling party is not breaching the electoral code of conduct. ‘Action will be taken if anyone violates the code,’ he said.
EC Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed, Ghatail Area Commander and General Office Commanding of 19th Infantry Division of Bangladesh Army Maj Gen Mizanur Rahman Shamim, Divisional Commissioner of Mymensingh Mahmud Hasan, DIG Nibas Chandra Majhi, and Deputy Commissioner and Returning Office Dr Subash Chandra Biswas were, among others, present.
