No BNP candidates in 106 UCs in 4th phase election
Dhaka: Like the first three phases of Union Parishad elections, there are no BNP chairman candidates in 106 UCs out of total 725 that go to polls in the 4th phase election billed for 7 May.
The Election Commission on Tuesday revealed the statistics of the chairman candidates in the 4th phase polls as the deadline for withdrawal of candidature expired on Monday, reports UNB.
As per the data, ruling Awami League has candidates in 724 UCs, while BNP in 619 UCs and HM Ershad-led Jatiya Party in 156 UCs.
A total of 3,245 chairman candidates–1,723 from 15 political parties and 1,522 independent contestants–are contesting the 4th phase of UC election.
Meanwhile, 33 single candidates are set to be elected uncontested finding no rival candidates against their respective posts in this phase.
Earlier, BNP had no chairman candidates in some 200 UCs out of 1,371 in the first two phases of elections held in March last.
BNP has no chairman contender in 46 UCs out of 621 UCs that are set to go to polls on Saturday next (23 April) in the third phase.
