Dhaka: US Ambassador in Dhaka Marcia Bernicat on Thursday called upon all to work together to eliminate violence against women saying this is now a global problem.

The call came when Khadiza Akter Nargis, a student of Sylhet Government Mohila College, is struggling at a city hospital being a victim of violence against women.

The Ambassador, in a tweet, also said such abuse must be fully investigated and prosecuted.

‘Violence against women is a global problem we all must work to eliminate. Abuse must be fully investigated and prosecuted,’ her tweet reads.

On Monday, Khadiza was hacked by a Bangladesh Chhatra League leader in Sylhet and is on life support in a critical condition at Square hospital in the capital.

There are hack wounds all over her body and her head injury is very serious as she was taken for a second surgery, doctors said.

Khadiza is daughter of Masuk Miah, a resident of Hausa village in Sadar upazila, who was stopped on her way back home from college by Badrul Alam, 30, assistant secretary of SUST unit of BCL.
