Japan supports vocational training facility in Chittagong

Dhaka: Japan will provide grants of US$ 83,289 to Khan Bahadur Foundation to construct vocational training center in Chittagong through Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGHSP) on Thursday.
The Grant Contract of GGHSP was signed between Masato Watanabe, Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh and Mahmudul Islam Chowdhury of Khan Bahadur Foundation at the Embassy of Japan, said a press release.
The Vocational Training Centre named named Banshkhali Polytechnical Institute (BPI) will be constructed in Banshkhali Upazila of the district to provide training facility to the poor and unskilled youths of the region for free of cost.
BPI will cover trades relating to ship building industry which will enable trainees to get job offer since there is a scarcity of trained human resources in this sector. It is expected that at least 400 participants per year will receive quality training on Welding & Fabrication and Electrical & Navigation trades from this facility.
Japan has supported 187 NGO projects through the Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGHSP) since 1989 with a view to enhancing economic and social human security at the grass-roots level. The total sum of these GGHSP grants extended to NGOs in Bangladesh to date amounts approximately to US$ 14.53 million.
