‘Concert de la Francophonie’ Friday
Dhaka: Alliance Française de Dhaka (AFD) is going to organise ‘Concert de la Francophonie’ on Friday from 7 pm to 8 pm in its Café la Véranda here.
The concert will be organised as part of the celebration of six day-long festival ‘Journée internationale de la francophonie’ (The International Day of the Francophonie) which began on Mar 19, reports the UNB.
Jean - Pierre Poncet and Mizanuddin Khan will perform in the concert which is free for all.
Every year, the Francophone community celebrates the day to promote the use of the French language as well as cultural and linguistic diversity across the world.
International Francophonie Day is celebrated around the world every year on March 20 to rejoice the love for French language, the cultural diversity and harmony it beckons, as well to foster the values of peace, democracy, respect for human rights and sustainable development.
Seven-member countries of Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) are officially represented in Bangladesh and contribute to the celebration, said a press release.
The countries are Canada, Egypt, France, Morocco, Switzerland, Vietnam, and as an observer member, Qatar.
The Francophone diplomatic missions in Bangladesh, together with Alliance Française has included theatre performance, speech contest, cooking competition, short film festival, visit Lalbagh Fort guided in French language, translation competition, inter-university quiz competition, French song concert and many more till March 24.
The International Organisation of La Francophonie was created in 1970. Its mission is to embody the active solidarity between its 84-member states and governments (58 members and 26 observers), which together represent over one-third of the United Nations’ member states and account for a population of over 900 million people, including 274 million French speakers.
