A Spice Girls reunion might be happening

It's the biggest pop music story as of now. OK, maybe it’s the second after a certain British boyband member decided to call it quits, but a Spice Girls reunion is on the cards, reports AAP.

The 20-year reunion of Ginger, Baby, Posh, Scary and Sporty is looming.

That eponymous song, Wannabe, will be 20 years' of age in 2016 and apparently the girls are thinking it's time to put their platform trainers on and get back with their friends.

The ladies aren't exactly strangers to the reunion tour concept. In 2008 they reformed for a string of dates which Victoria Beckham (Posh) said would be their last.

‘I realised it was finished for good in 2008, when we reformed for our reunion tour,’ she told Vogue.

‘It should have been the best moment of my life, but I just wanted to be elsewhere. It wasn't lack of respect for the girls or the audience, but the passion just wasn't there. By contrast, in my new career, the passion grows every year. I still want more.’

However, she swallowed her words to perform at the closing ceremony for the London Olympics in 2012, but again came out with her ‘never again’ comments, this time to Vanity Fair magazine in 2014.

‘I won't ever do it again,’ Beckham told the magazine, explaining the Olympics performance was the perfect time to say goodbye.

‘Sometimes you've got to know when it's time to leave the party,’ she said.

However, the reunion rumours are back again, started by none other than Emma Bunton. Who? Well, Bunton was once Baby Spice and after a short-lived solo career she hasn't really done anything else. No wonder a reunion tour would be quite appealing to a potentially bored Baby Spice.

Scary Spice, aka Mel B, has been busy doing the rounds as a judge on TV talent shows including The Voice in Australia and America's Got Talent before a return to The X Factor in the UK.

Beckham is obviously a global brand in her own right with her fashion line, famous husband and equally famous children, but the others don't seem to be doing a whole lot.

Sporty Spice (Mel C) has limped along in the music business but her last hit was with Brian Adams on When You're Gone in 1998.

Geri Halliwell, aka Ginger Spice, who was the first to leave the band had a solo career for a while and also did the talent show rounds, but now seems to hit the headlines more for her love life (she's engaged to Christian Horner boss of the Red Bull Formula One racing team) than anything else.

So, it's obvious who might benefit from a reunion tour.

‘I was with Geri (Halliwell) and Mel B just recently, we love each other and we love performing together. It's just when the timing is right because we all have our own careers now and we have families - it's just about getting five schedules together and that's all it is,’ Emma Bunton (Baby Spice) told Now magazine in the UK.

So the question is, will Beckham budge on this and give in for another reunion tour?

She might consider it when she looks at the success of the last tour where they reportedly made more than $107 million in ticket sales.
