Bass Baba releases first solo instrumental album

Dhaka: Soul Food-part 1, the first solo bass album by renowned Bangladeshi musician Sumon also popularly known as Bass Baba, was released on 31 October.

The album is available in on music streaming app — Gaan. It is also available on all other digital music platforms for local and international audiences.

Sumon, known as the singer, bass player, composer and songwriter for the famous rock band Aurthohin, is one of the most talented bass players of this generation. He is the first Bangladeshi musician endorsed by famous bass guitar brand, MTD.

In the album, Sumon collaborated with and featured world’s renowned musicians such as Felix Pastorius, Robert ‘Bubby’ Lewis, Josh Cohen, Bob Franceschini, J.D. Blair and Erfan Nazem Zadeh. Talented Bangladeshi drummer, Mark Don is also featured in one of the tracks.

Soul Food-Part 1 is undoubtedly a unique and amazing experience for music lovers in Bangladesh as well as abroad, to listen to talented musicians collaborate in a single album which definitely put Bangladesh in the spotlight of the international music fraternity.

Speaking to Saidus Khaled Sumon, affectionately addressed ‘Bass Baba Sumon’, about the album, he said, ‘Soul Food is original and is served fresh to the fans...it is cholesterol free and is good for health.’

Soul Food-Part 1 consists of five original songs written and produced by Sumon. The second part will be released during the winter National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) show in January 2017 and will feature a host of other amazing musicians. The NAMM show is an annual event in the US that its organisers describe as ‘the world’s largest trade-only event for the Music Industry’. It takes place every January in Anaheim, California, where Sumon has been participating for the last two years.
