DU hall inmates protest hike in ID card renewal fees
Dhaka: A group of students of Bijoy Ekattor Hall of Dhaka University on Monday demanded reducing the renewal fees for their Identity (ID) cards.
Progressive Students Alliance under the banner of general students pressed the demand at a press briefing at Madhur Canteen on the university campus at noon.
If the hall authorities do not reduce the fees within seven days, they will announce a tougher programme against the hall administration, said student leaders.
They said the hall authorities issued a notice on 9 November for renewing their ID cards for one year at Tk 3,600, saying if any student fails to pay the fees, his seat will be cancelled.
The amount of the new fees is 10 times more than that in other halls, the students said.
The students of the hall brought out a procession on the hall premises at about 8:00pm against the hike in fee.
Contacted, provost of the hall Prof Shafiul Alam Bhuiyan said as the budget is low for the university, they are taking additional fees.
