First incubation centre to be set up at SUST
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak has said that the country’s first incubation centre will be set up at Shahjalal University of Science & Technology (SUST) to make the young generation more skilled in information and technology sector.
The state minister came up with the declaration while delivering his speech at the concluding ceremony of the two-day technology festival, ‘IP-Vision CSE Carnival 2015’, organised by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at SUST on Saturday evening.
He also said that the country’s first wireless Wifi hotspot and mobile admission process were invented at this university and consequently the first ‘incubation centre’ will be established here.
‘Another specialised laboratory will also be built at the university under ICT division,’ said Palak.
He also granted Tk40 lakh fund initially for building the laboratory.
Palak also urged the students of the university to participate actively in the work for building Digital Bangladesh.
SUST Vice Chancellor Dr Aminul Haque Bhuiyan presided over the ceremony.
Prof Shahidur Rahman, head of the CSE department, said participants this year competed in four events: inter-university programming contest, inter-university software contest, project showcasing and gaming contest.
A total of 145 teams from 46 universities took part in the programming contest, 22 teams from 12 universities in the software contest and 30 teams from 13 universities in project showcasing.
Besides, 38 teams participated in gaming contest.
‘AC Dragon’ of Dhaka University became champion, ‘Down to the Air’ of SUST first runner up and ‘Artilias’ of BUET the second runner up in the progamming contest.
In web development category in software contest, ‘IIT Spa turn’ of Dhaka University became the champion and ‘checkmate’ of IUBTA became runner up.
In mobile application category, ‘Bluetooth’ of BRAC University became the champion.
