Sylhet univ expels 10 over killing student
Authorities of Sylhet International University (SIU) have expelled its 10 students for their alleged involvement in the killing of a student.
The students who have been meted out the punishment are Hosain Mohammad Sagor, Elias Ahmad Punam, Imran Khan, Moynul Islam Rumel, Bashir Ahmad Tuhin, Nahid, Awal Ahmad Sohan, Ashik, Saiman and Nayan, reported the United News of Bangladesh.
The expulsion decision came at a meeting of the university’s syndicate on Friday night, said a press release.
The action against the 10 students was decided after the allegation was primarily proved against them.
Habibur Rahman Habib, a 4th year student of the university and also an activist of the city unit of BCL, was hacked to death allegedly by some activists of the organisation he belonged to in the city on 19 January.
Sources at the city unit BCL said Habib was a supporter of Tushar, general secretary of the unit.
A few days back, he left the group and joined Telihawar group, another faction of the unit.
On 19 January, some BCL activists swooped on Habib on the campus and hacked him indiscriminately at about 11:00am.
He was whisked off to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital and later shifted to Mount Adora Hospital in the city where he succumbed to his injuries.
