55 SAU teachers quit admin posts
Dhaka: Some 55 teachers of Sylhet Agricultural University (SAU) have resigned from 67 administrative posts protesting the physical assault on the university proctor allegedly by its registrar, reports local news agency.
The 55 teachers submitted their resignation letters to the SAU Vice-Chancellor at about 5:00pm on Wednesday, said General Secretary of SAU Teachers’ Association Dr Mrittunjoy Kundu.
If Registrar Badrul Islam does not step down from the post, the teachers will boycott classes and examinations for an indefinite period.
Campus officials said a tussle took place between Proctor Abdul Baset and Registrar Badrul Islam following an exchange of heated arguments on Tuesday night over the appointment of some new teachers.
The incident brought the Teachers’ Association and the Officers’ Association at loggerheads as the teachers demanded action against the Registrar while the officers against the Proctor.
On Wednesday, the teachers abstained from taking classes and examinations while the officials also abstained from their duties.
