Sylhet: Teachers of the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) on Sunday formed a human chain and held a rally protesting the murder of Rajshahi University (RU) teacher AFM Rezaul Karim Siddiquee and demanding immediate arrest and punishment of the killers.

Teachers of SUST under the banner of Shahjalal University Teacher’s Association (SUTA) formed the human chain at about 12 noon in front of Central Library Building on the campus.

Later, a procession paraded the campus. Speakers at the rally termed the killing absolutely shocking. They mourned the murder.

Teachers said such crimes would continue if went unpunished.

They urged the government to arrest the murders immediately and ensure justice.

Shahjalal University Teachers’ Association president Syed Shamsul Alam, general secretary Mohibul Alam, Kamal Ahmed Chowdhury, Aktarul Islam Chowdhury, Muhammad Yunus, Mastubur Rahman, Ati Ullah and Faruque Uddin, among others, addressed the rally.

Rajshahi University English professor Rezaul Karim Siddiquee was stabbed to death on Saturday morning near his residence at Shalbagan in the city of Rajshahi by two unidentified motorcyclists.
