Notre Dame University’s founding anniversary celebrated with orientation
Dhaka: A discussion meeting and a short cultural programme was organised at the premises of the Notre Dame University of Bangladesh to celebrate the university’s third founding anniversary and the orientation of the sixth batch of university students.
The events started at 9:30am on April 27. Dr. Professor AK Azad Khan, president of Diabetic Association of Bangladesh and an important member of the university’s advisory panel was present at the event as chief guest.
At the beginning, Dr. Azad Khan and the university Vice-Chancellor Father Benjamin Costa CSC raised the national flag together while the national anthem was being sung. In the introductory speech, the vice-chancellor expressed his hopes of providing education of high caliber to the university students.
He also voiced his satisfaction with the current harmonious relationship between the teachers and students of the university. He emphasized on teaching the students morality based on efficient and earnest education.
He also stated that one day Notre Dame University will become known as a qualitative educational institute and hoped that it will be able to make contributions both nationally and internationally.
The Registrar of the University, Father S. Pereira, CSC introduced the administrative officers and the university teachers to the new students. Md. Wali Ullah, a teacher of the English Department made a speech on behalf of the university teachers. In his speech, he asked the students to follow the ideals of the institute while getting educated.
Afterwards, a documentary on the past years of the university was presented. A cake was cut to celebrate the anniversary of the university. Ariful Islam Anik welcomed the freshmen on behalf of the senior students.
Antara D’costa made a speech on behalf of the new students. She hoped that her batch-mates will uphold the ideals of the university and become proper human beings.
The Chief Guest stated in his speech that although the university had very little resources to begin with, it has been able to impart education of a high quality. He hoped that gradually the university will make a place for itself both in the national and international arena.
The chief guest also participated in the much awaited bulletin release of the university. The bulletin contained the details of the university activities that took place in the last three months.
The vice-chancellor honored the chief guest with a memorandum. After this, the students of the university presented their unique talents during the short but lively cultural program.
The event ended with the announcement of the university registrar Father S Pereira. Mr. Jyoti F Gomez had looked over the activities of the event.
