Former SUST VC Sadruddin Ahmed Chawdhury passes away
Sylhet: Eminent educationist and former vice chancellor (VC) of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) professor Sadruddin Ahmed Chawdhury passed away at Labaid Hospital in the capital on Saturday. He was 86.
Sadruddin Ahmed, who was the founding VC of SUST from 1989 to 1993, was declared dead at about 4:30pm, said professor Nazia Chowdhury, daughter of Sadruddin Ahmed Chawdhury.
Sadrruddin had long been suffering from old age complications. He was admitted to the hospital recently as his condition deteriorated, said Nazia.
He left behind three daughters and many students and well-wishers to mourn his death.
Born in Fulbari village of Golapganj upazila in Sylhet in 1931, Sadruddin obtained honours and masters degrees on Physics from Dhaka University in 1954 and 1955 respectively.
He began his career as a lecturer of Rajshahi College in 1956.
He obtained PhD degree on ‘X-ray crystallography’ from the University of Manchester in 1966.
Professor Sadruddin also served as dean of studies of Asia Pacific University and president of Sylhet unit of Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon (BAPA).
