JnU students stage demo seeking dorms on jail land
Keraniganj: A group of students of Jagannath University on Wednesday staged demonstrations on the campus demanding construction of dormitories on the empty land of Dhaka Central Jail which has been shifted to Keraniganj.
The students, led by some leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), started the demonstrations at about 12:00pm, with placards and banners, said the Kotwali Police Officer-in-charge Abul Hasan.
The students alleged that house owners are not renting out spaces to students in the wake of recent militant attacks in the country, leaving many of them having no family in Dhaka in troubles.
On Friday, the government relocated the 200-year old Dhaka Central Jail to a newly-built prison at Rajendrapur in Keraniganj.
