74.70pc pass HSC, equivalent exams
Dhaka: The results of Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations 2016 have been announced with 74.70% success rate, which is 5.1% higher than that of last year.
A total of 7, 38,872 students passed the examination this year while 58,276 students achieved the grade point average (GPA)-5.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid handed over a copy of Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and its equivalent examinations’ results to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her office at about 10:30am on Thursday.

The Education Minister said some 12,03,640 students took part in the HSC and equivalent exams of all the 10 boards, including Madrasah Education Board and Technical Education Board this year with examinees 1,42,026 sitting for the exams, with 10,61,614 higher than last year.
Total 64.60% passed the exams under Chittagong board, 64.49% in Comilla, 75.40% in Rajshahi, 70.13% in Barisal, 68.59 % in Sylhet, and 70.64% in Dinajpur.
Students of the HSC (vocational) also did well this year with 84.57 % pass while 88.19% passed in Madrasah Education Board.
The minister said some 58,276 examinees in all the education boards got GPA-5 this year, up from last year’s 42,894.
Besides, some 25 educational institutions witnessed zero pass rate this year against last year’s 35.
After receiving the results, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina congratulated the students as well as the teachers, and guardians for the successes of the students.
